2018-19 Wildcats of the Week

Entering its fourth year, the Wildcat of the Week award focuses on individual performances on the field/court/course over the past seven days. Every Monday, two student-athletes (one male and one female) will be selected and featured on the home page as this week's Wildcat of the Week.

Male – Will Stone – Sr. – Men's Soccer:
Stone helped the Wildcats to a 2-0 week, defeating LIU Post, 2-1, for the first time in program history. His penalty kick goal was the difference maker, coming back form a 1-0 deficit. He scored in the 85th minute for the game-winner. He then scored an insurance goal against Bloomfield on Saturday, helping the team to a 2-0 victory. Stone is now second in the CACC with 10 assists and fifth overall with 22 points.

Female – Tess Paya – Sr. – Women's Tennis:
Paya went undefeated in four matches last week, not losing a single set in either singles or doubles. She went 2-0 at No. 4 singles last week, defeating District of Columbia and Holy Family in straight sets. She also played two matches at No. 5 singles, defeating Post and Chestnut Hill without giving up a single point. In doubles, she teamed up with Marie Rondot to go 3-0 at No. 3 doubles, while also teaming up with Sabrina Blasi-Smith to defeat Holy Family at No. 3. She won by an average score of 6-2 in the four doubles matches last week.

Male – Mark Corrigan – Sr. – Cross Country:
Mark Corrigan won his first race of the 2018 season, racing to victory at the UD Blue & Gold on Saturday at the White Clay Creek State Park. He beat the field by nearly 36 seconds, finishing the 8K event in 27:01.3. His time this year was 18 seconds faster than his time at the same event and course last season. He was also named the CACC Co-Runner of the Week for his efforts.

Female – Angel Oliver – Fr. – Volleyball:
Angel Oliver helped the Wildcats to a 1-1 week by anchoring the defense at the net. She led the team with 14 blocks in two matches, denying one attempt with a solo block and adding 13 block assists. She tied a season high with eight block assists against Holy Family, adding a solo block and five block assists at Felician on Saturday. She also had five kills against the Tigers and four more against the Golden Falcons. She averaged 1.56 blocks per set for the week.

Male – Ryan Rucinski – Sr. – Golf:
The senior finished third in the 2018 CACC Golf Championship on Monday, shooting a 74-71 for a 145 (+5). He was off the top of the leaderboard by three strokes, but was the low finisher for the Wildcats. He helped lead the Wildcats to a third place finish in the tournament. Rucinski led the tournament by going two-under par on the par five holes throughout the two rounds.

Female – Jasmine Brake – Fr. – Women's Soccer:
The freshman scored her first two collegiate goals last week, earning the game-winner with her first collegiate goal against Concordia. Scored two goals against the Clippers on Homecoming on five shots.

Male – Fredrik Bentdal – Jr. – Men's Soccer:
The junior led the Wildcats to a 2-0 week by posting two goals and an assist. He tied the game, 1-1, against NYIT in the 23rd minute before helping the Wildcats take the lead for good with an assist on Dimitrios Topouzlis' goal in the 31st minute. His goal at Felician put the Wildcats up, 2-0, with a set piece form just outside the 18-yard box. It would be the eventual game-winner. He currently leads the team with 10 points this season, scoring four goals with two assists.

Female – Mandy Behiels – So. – Volleyball:
Despite only playing in two of the three matches last week, Behiels led the team with 31 kills and 34.5 points, leading the team to a 3-0 victory over Post on Saturday. She put down 16 kills in four sets at Georgian Court with nine digs before returning home and collecting 15 kills in three sets against Post. She hit .308 against Post with only three errors on 39 attempts, finishing the week with a .274 attack percentage. She averaged 4.43 kills, and 2.00 digs per set, adding two aces and two blocks.
