NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference announced the 2017 All-Conference Baseball Teams and major award winners on Monday afternoon, and five Wilmington University student-athletes were named either First or Second Team.
Senior outfielder Rocky Ferrier and Sophomore pitcher Sean Deely were named First Team All-CACC while sophomore Kendal Small, junior pitcher Chuck Delagol, and sophomore reliever Dan Hyatt were all named Second Team All-CACC in a vote of the league's 12 head coaches.
The five student-athletes led the Wildcats to a 28-19 regular season record and the second seed in the CACC Tournament with a 17-5 conference record. They defeated Nyack in the CACC Tournament First Round game on Saturday to advance to the double-elimination portion of the Tournament starting on Thursday.
Ferrier (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) was named a First Team All-CACC outfielder finishing third in the CACC with a .368 batting average. He heads into the postseason leading the league with 67 hits and is sixth overall with a .448 on-base percentage. His 40 runs scored ranks eighth in the league while he's also stolen 19-of-24 bags, ranking second in the CACC. Ferrier is also hit .400 in CACC play this season, collecting 32 hits and reaching base 47.9 percent of the time.
Deely (Wilmington, Del./Archmere) leads the CACC with a 1.48 earned run average, going a perfect 7-0 on the year. He's also second in the CACC with 65 strikeouts. In 11 starts this season, Deely tossed 67.0 innings, striking out 65 batters while only allowing 18 walks and 53 hits. He's 5-0 in CACC play this year, striking out 50 batters while only allowing 13 walks. He went eight innings in two games this year, striking out a season high nine batters twice.
Small (Dover, Del./Dover) was named the Second Team All-CACC first baseman after finishing second in the CACC with 43 RBI during the regular season. Small is second on the team with 46 base hits this year, collecting a team best 11 doubles and four homers. He's hitting .291 on the year. He became the first Wildcats since 2014 and only sixth since 2010 to hit two homers in a game, blasting two against No. 13 West Chester on May 2. He knocked in a season's best five RBI on April 12 at Philadelphia.
Delagol (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant) was named a Second Team All-CACC starting pitcher after going 5-2 in 11 starts as a junior. He finished 11th in the league with a 2.86 earned run average while picking up 49 strikeouts and only allowing 14 walks and 42 hits in 50.1 innings pitched. Delagol went 4-1 in CACC play this season, finishing with 29 strikeouts and only seven walks for a 3.60 ERA. He struck out a season's best seven batters twice (American International and Concordia).
Hyatt (Newark, Del./Conrad) was named the Second Team All-CACC reliever after appearing in 13 games out of the pen. He went 2-1 overall and finished third in the CACC with seven saves. In 15.1 innings pitched, Hyatt struck out 26 batters, averaging 15.26 strikeouts per nine innings. Six of his saves came in CACC play, as he struck out 18 batters in 10.2 innings pitched for a 15.19 strikeout per nine-inning ratio. CACC batters are hitting just .158 against the righty closer.
Philadelphia's Steven Wells was named the 2017 CACC Baseball Player of the Year while Felician's John Holland was voted as the 2017 CACC Pitcher of the Year. University of the Sciences Kris Morgenweck was named the 2017 CACC Rookie of the Year while Felician's manager Chris Langan was voted as the 2017 BSN Sports/CACC Coach of the Year by the league's sports information directors. Goldey-Beacom rounded out the major awards by earning the 2017 CACC Team Sportsmanship Award.
The second seeded Wildcats square off against sixth seeded Dominican on Thursday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn. The double elimination portion of the CACC Tournament is hosted by Post University.
