NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - For the fourth year in a row, the Wilmington University golf team has been rewarded the highest individual honor during the regular season, as senior Miguel Siercke has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, leading a team of six Wildcats that earned All-CACC.
In addition to Siercke winning the CACC Player of the Year award, the conference's sports information directors voted 13th year head coach Harry Jennings as the BSN Sports CACC Golf Coach of the Year. It is the fifth Coach of the Year award for Jennings in his illustrious career. The All-CACC Team and major awards are decided by the individual rankings accumulated throughout the season and compiled by GolfStat.com.
Joining Siercke on the All-CACC team is seniors Freddy Braun and Sam Clark, and juniors Troy Miller, Zac Moore, and Joey Russo. The Wildcats comprise of six of the 10 All-CACC spots. Post's Fredrik Rollve was named the CACC Rookie of the Year while Dominican and Felician were voted the CACC Team Sportsmanship awards.
Siercke is the top ranked player in the CACC and is currently fifth in the East Region. In 24 rounds this year, he is averaging a score of 75.63 (+3.88 against the par). The senior finished atop the leaderboard at the Quechee DII Challenge to start the 2016-17 season, shooting a 68 (-4) in the first round. Siercke also finished second in the head-to-head against Concord, and tied for fifth overall at the Post Eagles Invitational and the Wilmington Tri-Match. He shot a 72-72 for a 144 (E) at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational to finished sixth overall.
Moore, a junior competing in his first season with the Wildcats, is currently ranked ninth in the East Region according to GolfStat.com. in 24 rounds, Moore has shot an average score of 75.63 (+3.88 against the par). She shot a season low 68 (-4) in the first round of the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invite, leading the Wildcats with a third place finish. He also won the head-to-head contest against Concord with a 69 (-3).
Clark has played in all 24 rounds for the Wildcats this year and is currently ranked 13th in the East Region according to GolfStat.com. He is averaging 76.79 shots per round, going +5.04 against the par. He won the Wilmington Tri-Match with a 70 (-1), which proved to be his lowest round of the 2016-17 season. Clark also finished third at the Post Eagles Invitational, fourth at the Quechee DII Challenge, eighth in the head-to-head against Concord, and most recently ninth at the Mike Bello Spring Invitational to round out the regular season.
Braun has played in 16 rounds for the Wildcats this season, competing in seven tournaments. He is currently 16th in the East Region with an average score of 76.38 (+4.50 against the par). Braun won the Goldey-Beacom Spring Invite with a two round score of 75-77 and also finished tied for ninth overall at the Post Eagles Invitational in the fall. He had a season's low 71 (-1) in the third round of the Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif., finishing in a tie for 27th overall.
Miller is ranked 22nd in the East Region heading into the postseason averaging a score of 78.83 (+7.11 against the par) in 18 rounds. Troy Miller won the Griffin Invitational in the fall, shooting a 70 (E) to win by three strokes. He also finished fifth at the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invitational with a 74-69 for a 143 (-1), proving to be his lowest round of the season.
Russo played in seven tournaments (14 rounds) this year and is currently ranked 27th in the East Region according to GolfStat.com. Russo has a 77.07 average score, shooting 5.29 against the par. His most recent round in the Wilmington Tri-Match was his lowest round of the season, shooting a 73 (+3) to finish second overall. He also finished fourth overall in the head-to-head against Concord with a 75 (+3).
The Wildcats will begin their postseason run on Tuesday, April 24 with the CACC Championship. They will be vying for their unprecedented seventh straight conference championship. A champion will be crowned on Wednesday, April 25 at Back Creek Golf Club in Middletown, Delaware.
