SINKING SPRING, Pa. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team heads into bracket play in 10th place after two days of Baker Matches at the Golden Bear Classic, hosted by Kutztown University at Berks Lane.
The Wildcats moved up one spot to 10th on Saturday, going 3-2 in Baker Matches with a total of 4211 pins. They also went 3-2 on Friday, but finished 11th with 4267 total pins. They are in 10th in the standings with 8478 total pins and a 169.6 average.
On Friday, the team defeated New Jersey City, St. Peter's and Morgan State while falling to St. Francis (Pa.), and Caldwell.
On Saturday, the Wildcats defeated Roberts Wesleyan, Mount Aloysius, and Coppin State, while falling to Adelphi and Duquesne. At the end of two days of bowling, Adelphi leads the tournament with 9462 total pins and a 189.2 per game average, followed by St. Francis (Pa.) with 9337 total pins and a 186.7 per game average.
The Wildcats best match came on Saturday against Roberts Wesleyan, as they defeated the Redhawks, 932-723. The 932 total pins in a Baker Match is the third most for the Wildcats in the two years of the program. They also posted a score of 892, the fifth most in program history, in a loss to Caldwell, 924-892, on Friday.
The Wildcats will face Mount Aloysius to start the Baker Bracket Matches on Sunday. The Wildcats defeated Mount Aloysius on Saturday, 799-787. Mount Aloysius is in ninth place after two day, totaling 8639 pins and a 172.8 per game average.
The Wildcats are playing for as high as seventh place with three wins on Sunday.
