NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After earning their best record as a program last season, the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team was picked third in the 2020 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
For the first time since the 2016 season when they were picked fourth, the Wildcats have earned their highest rank in the Preseason Coaches' Poll at the No. 3 spot. WilmU finished with an overall record of 11-8 with a 7-2 CACC record in Head Coach Kevin Day's second season at the helm.
Leading the Poll would be CACC reigning Champions, Georgian Court, who earned seven first place votes for a total of 87 points. Jefferson University, who finished second in last year's CACC Tournament would pick up the second spot in the Preseason Coaches' Poll with a total of 81 points and one first place vote.
Wilmington would earn two first place votes for a total of 75 points to take the No. 3 spot. Chestnut Hill would follow the Wildcats in fourth with 56 total points, while Caldwell and Dominican rounded out the playoff outlook tied for the fifth place with 55 points each.
Coming in seventh was the Tigers from Holy Family with 40 total points, with Nyack coming in at the eighth spot with 38 points. Post would take the No. 9 spot in the Poll with 35 points, as Felician finished last with a total of 18 points.
The Wildcats will look to get back in the CACC Tournament this season, where they fell just short in the semifinals last year. They will look to be one of the top six teams competing in the Tournament, which will begin on Tuesday, April 28 for the first round, followed by the semifinals and championship games on Friday May 1-2 at Georgian Court.
The women will begin their trek beginning Wednesday, February 19 where they will have their home and season-opener at the Complex against Barton starting at 10 a.m.
