Wrapping up the 20124 Wildcat Regional Invitational, the Wilmington University volleyball team dropped matches to Merrimack and Stonehill on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.
Set scores against Merrimack were 24-26, 24-26, and 28-26.
Set scores against Stonehill were 20-25, 25-21, 19-25, and 24-26.
It was the Allison Briley show in Saturday's opener, as she collected 18 kills in the three sets, hitting .256 for the match. Kaitlin DiGiacinto, Erin Bistany, and Alex Siolos each added seven kills in the close loss.
Wilmington hit .233 as a team while the Warriors hit .259 for the match, but both team were above 60 percent in side-out opportunities.
Angela Collins led all Wildcat hitter with a .429 attack percentage, collecting six kills on 14 swings without committing an error. Kasey Couch passed out 23 assists while Siolos chipped in with 19 helpers. Shelby Henderson led all defenders with 12 digs in the match.
In another closely contested match, Stonehill was able to edge the Wildcats in the nightcap, needing extra points to finish off the Wildcats in the fourth set.
The offense was spread out among DiGiacinto (13 kills), Briley (12 kills), and Siolos (10 kills), while Bistany chipped in with eight kills on 15 swings with only two errors.
The Wildcats were narrowly out-dug in the contest against Stonehill, 77-74, but were led by DiGiacinto's 20 digs to finish with a double-double. Henderosn collected 15 more digs while Couch added another double-double with 14 assists and 14 digs.
The team hit .351 in the second set when it won, 25-21, while also siding out at a 72 percent clip (16-22), but only hit at a .152 clip in the remaining three sets.
The Wildcats take to the road all of next week, as they head to Georgian Court for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Tuesday night. The team will then head to Springfield, Mass., for the AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by American International next weekend.
