NEWARK, Del. - - Two Regional Tournaments and playing host to the CACC Tournament highlight the Wilmington University Volleyball season, as head coach Kim Habbert announces the 2017 schedule.
The Wildcats look to rebound after a 10-20 season in 2016. The 2017 schedule has six regionally ranked opponents from the 2016 season which will have the Cats primed for another postseason run. The Wildcats once again expect to find themselves playing for a championship as they have been awarded the opportunity to host the CACC Tournament.
The 2017 season opens on the road for the Cats as they travel to Bentley University to take part in the Hoffman Memorial Invitational on September 1-2. After returning home, the WU Athletics Complex will once again play host to the Wildcat Regional Invitational on September 8-9; this will also be the first opportunity to see the Cats at home.
Following the two tournaments to start the season, the Wildcats will be back on the road as they open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play taking on the Rams of Thomas Jefferson University (formerly Philadelphia University) on September 13. The team will stay on the road as they travel to play two regional opponents in LIU Post and University of New Haven on September 16 in a tri-match.
The Cats will then be at home for two games, one on September 19 against Kutztown University then will play host to the season's first home CACC match against Georgian Court University on the 22nd of September. The lady spikers find themselves back on the road the next day as the travel to Caldwell for another CACC matchup. Wednesday, September 27 the Lightning of Goldey Beacom will be at the WU Athletics Complex for an in-state CACC matchup. The volleyball team will round out the month of September on the road at Nyack College on September 29 and on the road September 30 versus Southern Connecticut State and NYIT as a doubleheader slated for a 1 pm start.
The month of October finds the Wildcats on the road to take on CACC opponents at the USciences, Holy Family, Georgian Court, Post, Concordia, and Goldey Beacom as well as a PSAC game versus Millersville. The spikers find themselves playing four home games during the month, all being within CACC play against Chestnut Hill, Bloomfield, Dominican, as well as Thomas Jefferson.
November 4 is the next game back and it's a big one as the Wildcats honor the seniors at the Complex on Senior Day versus the Devils of the USciences. We round out the home regular season playing host to Holy Family. The last regular season game is on Saturday, November 11 as the spikers are on the road taking on Chestnut Hill.
The Wildcats will need to finish in the top four teams in the South Division to advance to the CACC Tournament which begins on Tuesday, November 14 with the first round, hosted by the higher seed. The remainder of tournament will be played at the WU Athletics Complex on Saturday and Sunday the 18-19 with game times to be determined.
