LYNDHURST, N.J. - - Five second half goals separated the Wilmington University men's soccer team from Felician on Saturday night, as the Wildcats remained undefeated with a 6-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Lyndhurst Recreation.
The Wildcats (3-0-3, 1-0-1 CACC) used six different goal scorers in the contest, taking advantage of a Felician (0-6-1, 0-3 CACC) red card in the 33rd minute to overpower the home team in the second half.
Only five shots were taken in the first half, with four coming off a boot from Wilmington. The only shot that mattered on the scoreboard came in the 26th minute, as senior Sam Jester took a cross from Callum McHale and scored his second goal of the year for the 1-0 lead 25:42 into the game.
Felician's Maxi Ojeda was handed a red card in the 33rd minute, setting the stage for the second half as the Golden Falcons played the rest of the game with 10 men.
Fredrik Bentdal gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute, blasting his fourth goal of the season off a set piece just above the 18-yard box. The Wildcats continued to pressure, scoring again just over six minutes later. Will Stone put the Wildcats ahead, 3-0, with his third goal of the year in the 61st minute off an assist from Ellis McSharry.
Felician was able to get on the board on the ensuing whistle, as Junior Borja broke up the shutout 38 seconds later for his first goal of the year.
The Wildcats outshot the Golden Falcons, 21-6, including a 17-5 advantage in the second half. Vinny Tasca made three saves in goal for the victory.
After having five of their first six games to start the season on the road, the Wildcats begin a four-match home stand on Wednesday when they face Chestnut Hill in another CACC contest. The opening whistle is set for 4:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
