NEWARK, Del. - - Another 2-0 week for the Wilmington University men's soccer team keeps them at No. 3 in the latest United Soccer Coaches East Region Poll, but propels the team up to No. 17 in this week's National Poll, released Tuesday.
The Wildcats defeated previously No. 1 West Chester, 2-1, in overtime on Wednesday and then went on to defeat New York Tech, 4-0, on Saturday to improve to 4-0 on the season. But the two teams above them in the East Region did not waver last week, not allowing the Wildcats to jump up.
Adelphi remains at No. 1 in the East and moves up to No. 1 in the National Poll after starting their season 3-0. Mercy College is at No. 2 in the East once again, and moves up to No. 12 in the National Poll with a 3-0-1 record. After the Wildcats in third, the poll remains the same with Le Moyne at No. 4 and Southern New Hampshire at No. 5.
The second half of the poll shifted this week, as Saint Rose moved up a spot to No. 6 while Assumption had the biggest jump of the week, going from No. 10 to No. 7 this week. Franklin Pierce remains at No. 8 while American International slides down to No. 9. Saint Anselm joins the poll after starting 3-0, sitting at No. 10 this week.
The Wildcats host another tough opponent at the WU Athletics Complex this week, as East Region No. 5 Southern New Hampshire comes to town on Wednesday. The teams last faced off in the Second Round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament when SNHU was ranked No. 1 in the country. The only other time SNHU has come to Delaware was in 2008, the lone Wildcats victory (1-0) in four tries against the Penmen.
Wednesday's first whistle is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
