The Wilmington University softball team completed another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep, taking games from Post, 6-0 and 1-0, on Friday afternoon at Asbury Field.
The Wildcats (28-13, 16-6 CACC) completed the sweep with a pair of shutouts, defeating Post (22-16, 16-8 CACC), ranked No. 10 in the latest NCAA East Regional Poll, with their sixth and seventh shutouts in their last 10 games overall.
Sophomore Brooke Lachette tossed a five-hit shutout in the first game, striking out eight batters while only allowing one walk in the complete game shutout. The offense came alive with two runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to extend the lead to 6-0.
Sophomore Becca Stanley hit a two-out triple to right in the top of the second inning to give the Wildcats the lead, before the centerfielder smashed a two-out double in the fourth inning, bringing in a pair to put the Wildcats ahead, 3-0, going into the bottom of the fourth.
Lachette took care of the rest for the Wildcats, leaving a runner on in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before striking out a pair in the bottom of the seventh to give the Wildcats the game one victory.
In a matchup of the top-two CACC pitchers in game two according to earned run average, senior Chelsea Botsch got the best of the Post's Samantha Esque by posting another complete game shutout. Botsch tossed seven shutout innings while only allowing a fourth inning single, striking out six batters in improving to 14-5 overall.
Botsch took the game over from there, only giving up the leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth. Botsch worked around the single to strand the runner at second in the fourth, before putting the Eagles down in order in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
The senior right handed pitcher has now tossed 47.2 consecutive innings without allowing a run, spanning eight straight starts.
Stanley went 2-for-3 with three RBI in game one while batting 1-for-3 in game two. Ziemba added two hits in game one while hitting 1-for-4 with a run scored in game two. Bennett went 2-for-3 in the nightcap.
The Wildcats take to the road for their final two CACC doubleheaders, as they travel to Bloomfield on Saturday and Concordia on Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m. in Bloomfield, N.J.
