NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Conducted by the league's 14 head coaches, the Wilmington University women's basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the South Division as the 2018-19 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preseason Coaches Poll was released by the conference on Wednesday.
After finishing tied for sixth in the South Division last season with an overall record of 6-22 and 3-16 in the CACC, the Wildcats tallied a total 23 points to fall in the sixth spot of the CACC South Division Preseason Coaches Poll.
Jefferson and USciences topped the South Division poll tied with 90 points apiece, as CACC Tournament Champions, USciences gathered eight first place votes, and CACC Tournament Runner-Up Jefferson tallied six first paces votes. Chestnut Hill claimed the third place spot with 71 points, with Holy Family rounding out the expected CACC Tournament participants with 55 points.
Goldey-Beacom takes the fifth place spot with 39 points, as Georgian Court rounds out the South Division behind the Wildcats with 18 total points.
Defending CACC North Division Regular Season Champions Bloomfield claimed the top spot in the North Division with a total of 89 points and eight first place votes. Caldwell was four points behind the Bears, as they were picked to finish second in the North with 85 points, as they tallied five first place votes. Dominican rounds out the top three with 75 points and the final first place vote in the North, as Felician earned 49 points to finish out the expected playoff contenders.
Post University picked up 48 total points, while Concordia earned 27 points for the sixth place finish. Nyack rounded out the North Division with 20 total points.
The Wildcats open up the season at home this year in the Tip-Off Classic which is slated for next weekend. WilmU is set to play Stonehill College Friday night at 7:00 p.m., then the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.
