NEW HAVEN, Conn. – For the second time this season, red shirt sophomore Delaney Steele earned Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week after an outstanding week last week.
Steele scored seven goals and dished out 13 assists to help the Wildcats to a 2-0 record last week. In back-to-back games, she had 10 points, which was just two shy of the single game program record of 12 set by La'Dae Boykin last year. She scored four goals on 10 shots and dished out six assists in the Wildcats 20-3 win over Felician. She scored three goals and dished out seven assists against Nyack, which tied her for the single game program record for assists in a game set by Liz Case in 2013. She finished with 20 points and went 4-for-5 on free position opportunities, as well.
The attacker from Magnolia, Delaware currently ranks tied for seventh in the CACC with 29 goals and is second in the league with 30 assists. She is also second in points with 51 on the season throughout 12 games played.
Teammate Maddie Hurm earned a spot on this week's Honor Roll as she made 10 saves and allowed only three goals for a 2.45 GAA last week.
Softball's Makayla McCarthy and Kiana Broderson-Jones earned a spot on the Honor Roll helping the Wildcats to a 7-1 overall record last week. McCarthy pitched 22.2 innings, allowing 15 hits, seven runs, while striking out 30 batters. In the Wildcats 16-0 win over Jefferson, McCarthy threw a no-hitter, striking out nine batters throughout the five inning contest. Broderson-Jones batted .429 last week, with nine hits, including one double, two triples, and a grand slam for 11 RBI.
Kendall Small was also named to the Honor Roll this week for baseball, as he had seven hits, including four doubles and two homeruns to go along with five RBI. Small is now the programs All-time hits leader with 200. With his double in the top of the eighth inning in game one against Post, he moved to the top of the list with 197 career hits.
