Women’s Tennis Team and Players Ranked in Final 2019 Oracle/ITA East Regional Rankings

NEWARK, Del. - - Wrapping up the 2018-2019 women's tennis season, the Wilmington University team was represented in all three of the final Oracle/ITA Division II East Regional Rankings, as released by the organization on June 5.
The Wildcats finished the season ranked seventh in the East Region, while junior Begona Gomar was the only Wildcat to be on both the Top 20 singles list, and the Top 10 doubles list.
Gomar is ranked the 11th best singles player in the East Region heading into her senior season. Teammates Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta are ranked the seventh best double pair in the East Region heading into their senior seasons as well. Gomar also teamed up with Anushka Sathe to be ranked 10th best in doubles play this past season.
The Wildcats are the only Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference team to have a pair of doubles teams in the Top 10, and only the second team overall. Queens College features the third and sixth ranked doubles teams in the East Region.
In singles play, Begona Gomar went 9-9 overall in dual matches, all at the number one position. She went 6-2 at No. 1 singles in CACC play, including a win over No. 7 Angelica Hantzis of Concordia in the CACC Championship.
When partnering up with teammate Anushka Sathe, the pair went 12-6 at No. 2 doubles, including 7-1 in CACC play. Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta went 6-2 in CACC play at No. 1 singles, finishing the season with a 7-10 overall record at the highest doubles. They also went 2-1 at the ITA East Region Tournament, finishing the season with a 9-11 overall mark.
